NKY District Disaster Ministry Training Opportunity

posted on January 10

A Basic ERT (Early Response Team) Training is being offered on Saturday, February 26, 2022 for any interested clergy and laity. It will be held at Alexandria UMC in the fellowship hall from 8am - 5pm. This is a free course and lunch will be provided.

The mission of an Early Response Team is to provide a caring presence in the aftermath of a disaster, under very specific guidelines that enables a team to be productive and caring while causing no further harm or being a burden to the affected community. These trainings are led by authorized UMCOR trainers and our KY Annual Conference Disaster Response Coordinator, Jim Morse, will be teaching this course.

The topics covered in the class include the who, what, when, where and how of doing disaster response ministry, as well as some hands-on experience in the specific tasks that Early Response Team members are expected to accomplish in the face of a disaster.

Participants will need to provide proof of Safe Sanctuaries training before taking the course and a link will be sent out prior to the session to submit information for a background check. Those completing the course will be issued an ERT Identification badge, which will be valid for 3 years.

If you feel called to serve as a member of the NKY District ERT, please register at: NKY District ERT Training Registration (Please list Jim Morse as the instructor.)
